 what is it?

Neurotoxins, also referred to as botulinum toxin, are injections used for cosmetic purposes, primarily to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles and fine lines. Botulinum toxin is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum and is known for its ability to temporarily paralyze muscles by blocking the neurotransmitters that cause muscle contractions.

When injected into specific facial muscles, neurotoxins temporarily relaxes those muscles, which can smooth out wrinkles and lines caused by repetitive facial expressions, such as frowning or squinting. Common areas treated include the forehead, between the eyebrows (eleven's), and around the eyes (crow's feet).

how does it work?

While they do share the same active ingredient, there are some differences between them, primarily in their formulation and manufacturing process.

  1. Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA): Botox is the oldest and most well-known brand of cosmetic neurotoxin. Botox typically takes effect within a few days to a week after injection and lasts for approximately three to six months.

  2. Xeomin (incobotulinumtoxinA): Xeomin is a newer brand of cosmetic neurotoxin. Unlike Botox, Xeomin does not contain any accessory proteins, which may reduce the risk of antibody formation. This can be advantageous for individuals who have developed resistance or tolerance to other botulinum toxin products. Xeomin has a similar onset of action and duration of effect as Botox.

  3. Jeuveau (prabotulinumtoxinA): Jeuveau is another newer brand of cosmetic neurotoxin, also known as "Newtox." It has similar onset and duration as Botox and Xeomin.

what are the benefits?

The onset of each neurotoxin can vary slightly from person to person and can vary based on several factors, such as, the dosage administered, the area treated, muscle strength, and individual metabolism. Because of this, some people may experience faster onset of action, while for others, it may take a bit longer for the effects to become noticeable. Generally, you can expect to start seeing noticeable effects within a few days to a week after treatment. However, the full effects may take up to two weeks to become apparent.

when will I see results?

The duration of neurotoxins can vary from person to person, but on average, the results typically last around 3 to 4 months before the effects gradually begin to wear off.

Several factors can influence how long tox lasts for an individual:

  • Metabolism: The rate at which your body metabolizes the botulinum toxin can affect how long the effects last. Faster metabolism may lead to a shorter duration of action.

  • Dosage: The amount of tox injected can influence the longevity of the results. Higher doses may provide longer-lasting effects.

  • Muscle Strength: The strength of the muscles being treated can also impact the duration of the toxin effects. Stronger muscles may metabolize the toxin more quickly, leading to a shorter duration of action.

  • Location of Treatment: The area of the body being treated can affect how long tox lasts. Generally, areas with more muscle movement may require more frequent treatments.

  • Individual Response: Each person's response to tox treatment can vary. Some individuals may experience longer-lasting results, while others may find that the effects wear off more quickly.

It's important to note that the effects of Botox are temporary, and regular maintenance treatments are typically necessary to maintain the desired results

  • Consistent Treatment Schedule & Follow-up â€‹â€‹

    • Stick to a regular treatment schedule of about 3-4 months to prevent the muscle from fully recovering between treatments, which can help prolong the results over time.

  • Avoid Sun Exposure

    •  Protect your skin from excessive sun exposure, which can accelerate the breakdown of tox

  • Adopt a Skincare Routine

    • Maintain or start a skincare routine that includes quality, medical grade products that include  gentle cleansing, moisturizing, and contain ingredients like retinoids, antioxidants, and hyaluronic acid.

  • Stay Hydrated

    • Drink plenty of water to keep your skin hydrated and healthy. Hydration is essential for maintaining skin elasticity and minimizing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
